Akron Digest
August 8, 2025
Good Morning, Akron!
Shower thought for the day:
We donât check the refrigerator multiple times hoping to find new food. We check it to see how far our standards have dropped since the last visit.
Letâs dive into this weekâs issue.

Want to Ride the Goodyear Blimp? Here's Your Shot.
Goodyear doesnât sell tickets to ride the blimp. Ever. So unless you're a pro athlete, a Goodyear exec, or extremely well-connected, youâre not getting on board.
Until now.
Bounce Innovation Hub is auctioning off two golden tickets for a ride aboard the iconic airship during its PNC Startup Showcase on September 25. Itâs part of the blimpâs 100th birthday celebration, paired with Akronâs bicentennial, making for one very Akron evening.
Get ready to break open the piggy bank. Bidding starts at $1,500. You donât have to attend the event to win, but with food, drinks, and a look inside Akronâs growing startup scene, it's a solid excuse to stop by.
Most of us will experience this from the ground. But if you're up for a once-in-a-lifetime experienceâand want to support local entrepreneurs while you're at itâthis could be your chance.
Tickets to the event, including the auction, can be found here.
đ Akron Bites
A new dessert adventure called the Summit Sweet Stroll has launched in and around Akron, featuring 20 local spots serving up everything from ice cream and candy to gourmet popcorn. Grab a passport, collect 16 stamps, and youâll earn a free scoopâplus a chance to win a $250 prize pack.
Meanwhile, Pavâs Creamery is doing something no one asked for but everyoneâs curious about: turning the legendary Lawsonâs chip dip into ice cream. It dropped on August 6, comes with a side of kettle chips, and only 100 pints will be available per location. Salty-sweet chaos incoming.
And in downtown news, Akronym Brewing is making a comeback. The brewery, which closed in 2024, is set to reopen this month under the leadership of The Brew Kettleâs president, Bryan Weber. Expect new beers from top Ohio breweries, a full bar, and a revamped food menu.
