Akron Digest
May 15, 2026
Good Morning, Akron!
We have an abbreviated issue this week. The writer of this newsletter went on vacation (the nerve!).
We'll be back at full strength next week
Let's dive into this week's issue.
📰 The Digest
🍝 A Downtown Institution Takes Its Last Order
The Spaghetti Warehouse on South Main Street closes Sunday, May 17, after more than 30 years in a former B.F. Goodrich warehouse. The restaurant was a genuine piece of downtown's early-90s revival, with its trolley car seating, big pasta bowls, birthday dinners for generations of Akron families.
In recent years, though, the foot traffic dried up. Last year, Owner Michael Kim told Signal Akron that annual sales had fallen from $3 million at peak to $1.1 million. The building is being acquired by GPD Group, which plans to use it for its own offices. Still open this week for lunch and dinner with a limited menu, if you want to say goodbye.
🔥 Top Events This Weekend
Here is our list of hand-picked events around the area:
2nd Annual NEO Adventure Festival 🏕️
Saturday, May 16 | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM | Amphitheater & Pavilion, Downtown Cuyahoga Falls
The Open Trail Collective is back for year two, and they've scaled things up. Over 50 organizations from across the region's outdoor scene will be on hand — hiking and mountain biking clubs, paddling outfitters, affinity groups, environmental orgs, gear shops, and more.
Think of it as a giant "here's what's in your own backyard" fair, except your backyard includes Cuyahoga Valley National Park. There'll be live music, skill-building demos, and a kids' zone. The whole thing is free and open to all ages and abilities.
CVFM Summer Market Opening Weekend 🌽
Saturday, May 16 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM | Howe Meadow, Peninsula
The Cuyahoga Valley Farmers Market is back in the meadow. Howe Meadow at CVNP is the only farmers market operating inside a U.S. national park, which is a pretty good reason to show up on a Saturday morning. Over 70 Northeast Ohio vendors rotate through each week with fresh produce, artisan breads, ethically raised meats, local coffee, handmade goods, and more.
The market runs rain or shine from 9 AM to noon. One heads-up: dogs are welcome, but not until 10 AM (they need their beauty sleep too, apparently). Grab your reusable bags and maybe hit a trail after.
Steely Dan Tribute feat. The FM Project 🎸
Friday, May 15 | 7:30 PM | House Three Thirty
Cleveland's FM Project has been packing Northeast Ohio venues since 2012 with their Steely Dan tribute, and they're good at it. A nine-piece band working through "Reelin' In the Years," "Peg," "Do It Again," and a solid run of deep cuts. The Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame catalog holds up, and so does this band.
General admission at House Three Thirty's intimate Cabaret space. If you want the full treatment, the VIP 23 Section includes bottomless cocktails, a charcuterie board, and a meal from Secret Pizza. Either way, you'll be swaying. And hey — before or after the show, the new Buckets restaurant inside the venue is serving up what they're calling Akron's best bucket of chicken. Bold claim. Might have to investigate.
Latin Night at El Patrón 💃
Saturday, May 16 | 9:00 PM - 1:00 AM | El Patrón Tequileria & Cuisine
If your Saturday needs a late-night option, El Patrón is throwing a Latin Night on their rooftop patio. Dancing, Latin music, and a Suavecito Tequila sponsorship that means the first 20 guests get a welcome cocktail. Complementary samples while supplies last.
Rooftop, May night, good music. You could do much worse.
