Bridgestone Blow Hits Akron šŸ

Bridgestone Americas is cutting 1,760 jobs across North and South America, affecting corporate, sales, and operations roles, along with plant reductions in Tennessee, Iowa, Argentina, and Brazil. Akron workers will be impacted, though the company hasn’t said how many.

While Bridgestone’s research and tire production facilities in Akron remain open, job cuts could hit corporate and operational staff as part of a company-wide effort to streamline costs and stay competitive.

Bridgestone says 4% of its 44,000 employees will be let go, but Akron’s exact share remains unknown. The company is still moving forward with its synthetic rubber pilot plant in the city. For now, workers are left waiting for clarity on job losses.

Big Screen, Big Upgrade at Canal Park šŸ“ŗ

The Akron RubberDucks are getting a $4M scoreboard upgrade at Canal Park before Opening Day (April 8), replacing their aging 2013 model. The privately funded project will give fans a crystal-clear view, improve high school and college game experiences, and allow for better non-baseball events like movie nights.

But wait—there’s more! Akron’s capital budget is also covering a $1M stadium bathroom facelift, with touch-free upgrades across all seven restrooms.

The RubberDucks’ stadium refresh is all about fan experience—sharper visuals, cleaner facilities, and more ways to enjoy the park beyond baseball.

Akron EMS Crew Honored šŸš‘ šŸ†ļø

Akron firefighter/paramedics Elizabeth Davis and James Remick just secured the 2024 EMS Crew of the Year award from Cleveland Clinic—a major honor recognizing their life-saving expertise, teamwork, and composure under pressure.

The Fire Station 6 (South Hawkins) duo was nominated for their flawless execution in high-stakes emergencies, including cardiac arrests and severe traumas. Their ability to stay calm, make quick decisions, and deliver top-notch care set them apart from a competitive field of EMS professionals.

Mayor Shammas Malik and Fire Chief Leon Henderson praised the pair, calling the award a testament to the excellence of Akron’s Fire Department.
